In the 2025 HPWH State of the Market Report, explore key trends shaping the HPWH market in 2025, including continued electrification in overall water heater sales, 2024 shipment estimates, and residential and commercial technology advancements. The report also includes comprehensive product lists, updates on 2025 policy headwinds, a utility incentives tracker, and insights into growing consumer awareness.
The Northwest Energy Efficiency Alliance (NEEA) contracted with Larson Energy Research to review key baseline assumptions and energy savings inputs for NEEA's HPWH program. In 2025, NEEA updated key assumptions to better account for HPWH adoption in residential new construction, introducing new approaches to more accurately track savings across the region.
NEEA contracted with NMR Group, Inc. to conduct the eighth Market Progress Report for NEEA's HPWH program. The report finds that the program has contributed greatly to setting the groundwork for ongoing and widespread HPWH adoption. Between 2021 and 2024, HPWH market share in the Northwest increased from 14.6% to 18.6% of all electric water heater installations, representing a 27% increase. Results demonstrated growth across all four states, with significant adoption in Washington due to building energy code changes. Ninety-five percent of HPWH owners said they would or have already recommended a HPWH to a friend, colleague, or family member.

AWHI recently compiled a convenient list of available central heat pump water heaters that includes manufacturers, product series, nominal capacity, ambient design temperatures, refrigerant, and more.
Several building types rely upon high-temperature (180F+) water for processes like hydronic space heating, final-cycle dishwashing, and sanitization. The heat pump market is evolving rapidly, and several products are now capable of producing 180F to 194F for multifamily and commercial buildings. Learn more with this event recording.

One representative, DMG North, Inc. had to change plans with short notice. A Flow CO2 heat pump demonstration trailer couldn’t be moved because a protected bird nested on the machine. Luckily they were able to bring other equipment. They wish mama bird nothing but the very best!
